- Bottom Copper (Bottom Layer): Similar to the top layer, this file represents the copper traces and pads on the bottom side of the PCB. The file extension is usually “.GBL” or “.BOT.”
- Solder Mask (Top and Bottom): Represents areas where the solder mask should be applied to protect the copper traces during soldering. The file extensions are “.GTS” for the top side and “.GBS” for the bottom side.
- Silkscreen (Top and Bottom): Contains the information for the component markings, reference designators, and other text on the PCB. The file extensions are “.GTO” for the top side and “.GBO” for the bottom side.
- Drill Data: Specify the locations and sizes of the holes to be drilled into the PCB. The file extension is often “.TXT” or “.DRD.”
- Board Outline: This represents the outline of the PCB, defining its shape and dimensions. The file extension is usually “.GML.”
PCB design software generates these Gerber files as an output, and PCB manufacturers then use them to fabricate the circuit boards. The Gerber data describes the PCB design in a format that manufacturing machines can interpret and use to create the different layers and patterns on the PCB during the fabrication process.
